Biographical Information[edit]

Jason Gonzales has been a college coach.

Gonzales was All-State as a shortstop in high school and was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 47th round of the 1988 amateur draft. He began his college career at the University of Texas but was injured and transferred to Blinn Junior COllege. The Braves chose him again, in the 56th round of the 1991 amateur draft (one pick before Willie Morales). He again did not sign, transferring this time to Louisiana-Lafayette for his final two years in college as a player.

Gonzales then became a coach. He was an assistant at UL Lafayette (1994), Arkansas State University (1995-1996), Wharton County Junior College (1997) and UL Lafayette again (1998-2002). He went with Lafayette to the 2000 College World Series, their first appearance in that event. He was head coach at Skidmore-Tynan High School from 2005-2007 then was an assistant at McNeese State University in 2008.

In 2009, Jason became head coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville. He was 20-35 his first year and improved to 25-25 in 2010 and 27-24 in 2011.
