Biographical Information[edit]

Jason Dominguez debuted professionally in 2007. He is the older brother of Matt Dominguez.

Jason Dominguez helped lead his high school to the #1 ranking in the nation in 2004. He hit .490 and went 13-0 with a 1.38 ERA but went undrafted due to signability concerns. He signed on with Pepperdine. He was 1-5 with a 8.77 ERA as a freshman, walking 23 and allowing 37 hits in 26 innings while hitting .167 for the #24 team in NCAA Division I in a rude transition from high school superstardom. In 2006, Dominguez improved to 6-1, 3.52 with 2 saves.

Dominguez was 2-3 as a junior with 12 saves and a 3.46 ERA. He was an honorable mention pick for the All-West Coast Conference team, leading the Conference in saves and tying for 17th in NCAA Division I. The Houston Astros took him in the 31st round of the 2007 amateur draft, 30 rounds after his younger brother was picked. Jason had the better professional debut, though, going 2-0 with 10 saves and a 1.35 ERA for the Tri-City ValleyCats. He allowed only 13 hits in 33 1/3 IP for a .117 opponent batting average.
