Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Jason Cierlik spent six years in the minor and independent leagues, pitching from 2002 to 2007.

He was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 33rd round of the 2000 amateur draft, but did not sign. In the 2002 amateur draft, he was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 23rd round - two slots behind Jacoby Ellsbury - and signed.

He was 11-11 with a 3.80 ERA in 172 games, allowing 190 hits in 217 2/3 innings while striking out 180 batters. Perhaps his best season was 2006, when he went 3-4 with a 2.68 ERA and two saves in 30 appearances for the independent Sioux Falls Canaries.

He died at the age of 27 on February 16, 2009.
