Biographical Information[edit]
James Rutherford made the Ontario University Athletics All-Star team in 2002-2003. He hit .304/.409/.467 in his college career; through 2006, he was in the top 5 in the OUA's history in doubles (9) and RBI (25) and in the top 10 in OBP and slugging. Rutherford hit .176/.300/.176 for Canada in the 2002 World University Championship.
Turning pro, Rutherford hit .127/.258/.218 for the 2003 London Monarchs of the Canadian Baseball League. In 2005, he played for the Dutch Tornado's, hitting .291/.365/.372 in 41 games. His batting line for the British national team in the 2005 European Championship was .188/.257/.219 but he played error-free defense in the outfield and his 5 runs tied for second on the team, two behind Adam Roberts. He moved to ADO in 2006 and batted .234/.330/.298 in 32 contests.
Rutherford played for the British national team in the 2007 European Championship, hitting .200/.200/.200 in the first round and .176/.176/.176 in the finals, but they still won the Silver. He struck out 22 times in 40 AB that tournament, leading the way.
