Biographical Information[edit]

James Jean is an umpire who worked his first major league games during the 2024 season, working a total of 31 games as a call-up umpire. He was a star player in high school, being named the player of the year in the West Palm Beach, FL area in 2012. He then went on to college, where he was an outfielder and first baseman, but was not drafted and after graduating from Flagler College in 2016, decided to remain in the game by attending the Harry Wendelstedt umpire school. He had done a bit of umpiring since he was a pre-teen and rightly felt that it was the way for him to make a career in baseball. His time at the umpiring school coincided with a push to hire more minority umpires in the professional ranks.

As a minor league umpire, he worked the 2022 Futures Game and was added to Major League Baseball's call-up roster of umpires before the 2024 season.
