Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jamaine Cotton was born in St. Thomas, but like many of his fellow islanders, went to the mainland to develop his game. The San Francisco Giants selected him in the 28th round of the 2009 draft, but he did not turn pro. The Houston Astros then took him in the 15th round of the 2010 draft. The scout was Jim Stevenson. He was 0-1, 8.36 in 13 relief appearances during his first pro season in rookie ball for the Greeneville Astros), but improved to 6-2, 4.76 in 2011, split between rookie ball (again with Greeneville of the Appalachian League) and the Tri-City ValleyCats of the NY-Penn League.

In 2012, he was 2-1 with a 3.31 ERA in 23 relief appearances for Tri-City. He was 2-5 with 2 saves and a 4.77 ERA in 26 games (5 starts) for the Quad Cities River Bandits in 2013.

His brother is Jharel Cotton.
