Biographical Information[edit]

Jakob Goldfarb has played in the minors and been on the Israeli national team.

Goldfarb hit .420 as a high school senior then .263/.369/.357 as a freshman at Oregon. [1] He fell to .217/.286/.289 as a sophomore then had a medical redshirt in 2017. He produced at a .308/.397/.487 clip with 35 runs in 53 games in 2018, stealing 14 bases in 18 tries, and tying the school record with seven outfield assists. [2] He played for two Cape Cod League teams that summer, the Cotuit Kettleers (1 for 19, 3B, BB) and Wareham Gatemen (.268/.426/.366 in 16 G).

As a senior, he hit .307/.415/.436. He finished as the University of Oregon career leader in outfield assists (14) and also in the top ten in doubles, walks, hit-by-pitch and hits. [3] He was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 24th round of the 2019 amateur draft. The scout was Mike Gange. [4] He split the summer between the AZL White Sox (5 for 20, 2 HR, 2 BB) and Great Falls Voyagers (.154/.353/.256, 9 BB in 14 G), mostly catching after having been primarily an outfielder in college (though he caught there too). He was then released by the White Sox.

In 2021, he caught on with the independent Ogden Raptors, sizzling as their center fielder. He hit .342/.461/.661 with 116 runs, 30 doubles, 24 home runs, 90 RBI and 45 steals in 53 tries. He led the Pioneer League in runs (six ahead of Matt Feinstein), was 5th in doubles, was second in homers (two shy of Zach Almond), was 6th in RBI, led in swipes by 16, led in total bases (232, 3 ahead of Jalen Garcia), led in times plunked (28) and had the best OPS of anyone with 300+ AB. He joined Feinstein and Josh Broughton as the league's All-Star outfielders; Almond won the MVP. [5]

That performance got him another look in the affiliated minors. Signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates, he hit .228/.421/.281 in 19 games for the Bradenton Marauders, mostly catching. After the Bucs let him go, he was 1 for 3 for the Tri-City ValleyCats then was signed by his third MLB system, the Arizona Diamondbacks. He batted .258/.410/.339 for the 2022 ACL Diamondbacks, primarily manning right field. He was hit by 14 pitches in 41 games in the minors overall.

He then made Israel's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. [6]
