Biographical Information

Outfielder Jake Rife topped .300 in each of his first three seasons as a pro.

Rife hit .476 as a high school sophomore, .492 as a junior and .450 as a senior, making All-State as both a junior and senior. Playing DH mostly as a college freshman, he struggled at .240/.354/.273 in 42 games. He improved to .312/.367/.440 as a sophomore, manning left field usually, then had wrist surgery after the season. He slumped to .267/.325/.400 in 2008 but rebounded to .328/.413/.510 with 41 runs in 54 games as a senior. He tied Brett Jackson for second in the Pac-10 Conference with six triples.

He was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 48th round of the 2009 amateur draft. The scout was Casey Harvie. He spent two years in their organization. He split the summer of 2009 between the Orem Owlz (11 for 26, 3 2B, HR, 2 BB), AZL Angels (8 for 23, 3B, 2 BB) and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (.253/.298/.356 in 31 G). In 2010, he appeared with Orem (.343/.4098/.524 in 29 G), the AZL Angels (.276/.350/.429 in 27 G) and the Quakes (7 for 30, 2B, 2 BB) once again.

Rife was let go and spent 2011 in the independent leagues. With the Chico Outlaws of the North American League that summer, he hit .343/.436/.583 with 13 home runs, 71 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 30 tries over 85 games. He was 10th in the high-scoring league in RBI and tied for 5th in swipes. He was named to the league's All-Star team, joining David Peralta, Todd Linden and Ronnie Gaines in the outfield.

Following the season, he was signed by the Atlanta Braves organization.
