Biographical Information[edit]

Jake Locker played football but not baseball at the University of Washington. In the 2009 Amateur Draft, he was selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as the last pick in the 10th round (#321 overall) as a center fielder. He signed a contract with Anaheim on August 15th, but never played baseball professionally. The Angels had previously taken him in the 46th round of the 2006 amateur draft as a pitcher out of high school.

In the 2011 NFL Draft, he was chosen #8 overall by the Tennessee Titans. This stunned experts, who did not expect him to be drafted until later on in the first round. He spent his first season with the Titans as the #2 quarterback behind Matt Hasselbeck. He played four seasons with Tennessee and was the team's starter in 2012, but then was set back by injuries the next two years. he announced his retirement from football after the 2014 season, having never fulfilled expectations placed in such a high draft choice. He was only 26 at the time, but had not played baseball since high school, so the Angels quickly indicated that they were not interested in having him attempt to play baseball in their organization.
