Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jake Jewell was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 5th round of the 2014 amateur draft. He reached the majors on June 16, 2018, pitching a scoreless inning of relief against the Oakland Athletics. He pitched again the next day, then was sent down for ten days before being called up again. In just his third career appearance, on June 27th, he suffered a serious injury when he slipped while trying to cover home plate on a wild pitch against the Boston Red Sox. He was carted off the field and faced a long stint on the disabled list. X-rays showed a broken right fibula and it cost him the remainder of the season.
