Biographical information

Jake Jacobs was a minor league pitcher who played from 1996 to 1999 in the Minnesota Twins system and in 2000 for the independent Greenville Bluesmen.

Jacobs was drafted by the Twins in the 21st round of the 1996 amateur draft and began his professional career that season. He pitched for the GCL Twins, going 1-2 with a 5.74 ERA in six starts. The following year, he converted to relief pitching and saw success - he went 1-1 with a ten saves and a microscopic 0.29 ERA in 23 relief appearances for the GCL Twins, striking out 55 batters in 31 1/3 innings of work while giving up only 16 hits. His ERA was somewhat deceptive as he had one earned run and six unearned runs.

With the Fort Wayne Wizards in 1998, he went 2-4 with a 6.19 ERA in 48 relief appearances despite striking out over a batter per inning. The following year, he went 0-3 with a 4.79 ERA in 48 appearances for the Quad Cities River Bandits. His 15 hit batsmen led the Midwest League. He pitched for the Bluesmen of the Texas-Louisiana League in 2000, going 8-7 with a 5.20 ERA in 28 games (nine starts).

Overall, Jacobs went 12-17 with a 4.86 ERA in 153 games (15 starts). He struck out 278 batters in 277 2/3 innings of work. He was just 4-10 in Organized Baseball.
