Biographical Information[edit]

Jake Faria shared 2015 Pitcher of the Year honors in the Florida State League with Amir Garrett. Pitching for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, he went 10-1, 1.33 in 12 games for Charlotte, then was promoted to the AA Montgomery Biscuits where he was 7-3, 2.51 in 13 games. He had been a 10th round draft choice by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2011 amateur draft and had not posted any particularly eye-popping numbers during his first four seasons in the organization until his break-out year.

In 2016, Faria split the season between Montgomery and the AAA Durham Bulls, with a combined record of 5-10, 3.99 in 27 games. However, back at Durham at the start of 2017 he was able to recapture his success from 2015, as he started the year going 6-1, 3.07 in his first 11 starts. In 58 2/3 innings, he had compiled 84 strikeouts. He was called up to Tampa to make his major league debut on June 7th and it was a good one as facing the Chicago White Sox, he gave up only 1 run on 3 hits in 6 1/3 innings, while walking 2 and striking out 5. He was credited with his team's 3-1 win. He had a quality start in his first seven outings, registering four wins, before losing for the first time on July 19th when he lost 7-2 to the Oakland Athletics.
