Jaime Mercado (Jimmy)

Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jaime Mercado played for the Puerto Rican national team in the 1969 Amateur World Series, the 1970 Central American and Caribbean Games, the 1973 Amateur World Series and 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games (Bronze). He hit .325 in 17 seasons in Puerto Rico's amateur league, topping .300 in 11 years. He hit .396 in 1976 to win the batting title. He played primarily center field.
