Biographical Information

Jae-Bak Kim is a legend of Korean baseball even though he played only ten years in the Korea Baseball Organization. The peak of his career came in his amateur days, before turning professional. In his amateur days he was the best shortstop in Korea. In his best season, he led the Korean amateur league in seven categories (Avg, HR, RBI, R, SB, OBP, Slg.) in 1977, a Korean record. He played in the 1976 Amateur World Series. In the 1982 Amateur World Series he was part of the team that earned the first gold medal in Korean baseball history. He laid down a clean bunt that scored the tie breaker in the final.

When he moved to the Korea Baseball Organization, he signed MBC Blue Dragons. He retired with the Taepyungyang Dolphins.

He was the manager of the LG Twins. In his managerial career, his famous saying was: "DTD", which stands for "Destined to descend" or "The weak team will take them down". His DTD theory moved many weak teams' fans, so many Korean baseball fans still like to use the saying when a weak team pulls an upset. He managed the South Korean national team to a Bronze Medal in the 2006 Asian Games after being coach a coach on their Gold-winning team in the 2002 Asian Games.
