Biographical Information[edit]
Jack Smith pitched three years in the majors, from 1962 to 1964. He was part of the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers team in 1963 although he did not appear in postseason play.
Smith was signed by the Dodgers in 1955 and played ten seasons of minor league ball, mostly in the Dodgers organization. He won 92 minor league games. His best year was probably 1962 with the Omaha Dodgers when he went 17-7, although he won in double figures also in 1956, 1958, 1960 and 1961.
As pitchers go, he wasn't a terrible hitter, with a minor league batting average around .175.
In the majors, he had most of his appearances with the Milwaukee Braves in 1964, posting a 3.77 ERA in 22 games on a team whose average ERA was 4.12. He was fifteen years younger than teammate Warren Spahn.
