Biographical Information

Jack Lynch is most famous for winning 37 games in 1884, pitching for the New York Metropolitans of the American Association. In addition to his playing career, Jack Lynch umpired one game in the American Association in 1884.

Major League Baseball Profiles, 1871-1900 has a detailed biography of Jack. He was described as a humorist. He started out as a semi-pro outfielder and began minor league play in 1878. In 1882, he played in the League Alliance, pitching 586 innings. He had an entrepreneurial spirit, at different times starting a sporting goods store, a billiard room, several saloons, and was an after-dinner speaker. Sometimes he was employed by others, such as when he coached (he coached Princeton University in 1886), was a police officer and was a boiler inspector.
