Biographical Information[edit]

Walter "Jack" Hammond was in the majors in 1915 and 1922 as a second baseman. In between, he spent most of the time playing in the Eastern League as well as managing there and hitting .351 in 1921.

"Walter Hammond, the Springfield, Mass., second baseman, is being converted into an outfielder, and it looks as if he has a good chance to stick with the Indians. Hammond bats from the right side of the plate, and this is in his favor, as Jackson, Graney, Leibold and Smith are all offside hitters. Hammond is a college boy, being a graduate of Colgate University. He is unusually fast, and has displayed some thinking along with good mechanical ability to date." - Sporting Life, March 27, 1915 about Jack Hammond, who did play outfield in the minors in 1917 but not ever in the majors
