Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop J.T. Riddle made his major league debut with the Miami Marlins on April 11, 2017, one day after starting SS Adeiny Hechevarria was placed on the disabled list. Batting 8th against the Atlanta Braves, he went 0 for 4 with a strikeout. He got his first hit the next day, although it wasn't a beauty: he attempted to check his swing on a ball that bounced in front of the plate but still hit it; the ball dribbled foul down the third base line but landed fair for a single. On April 16th, his hit was a no-doubter, as he blasted a walk-off homer off Addison Reed of the New York Mets in the 9th inning, giving the Marlins a 4-2 win after they had just seen Marcell Ozuna being thrown out at home. Riddle had come into the game in the top of the inning as a defensive substitute, only to watch David Phelps blow a 2-0 lead.

Riddle was a 13th round pick by the Marlins in the 2013 amateur draft, out of the University of Kentucky, after having been taken in the 35th round by the Boston Red Sox in 2010, after completing high school.
