Biographical Information[edit]

J.C. Hamilton pitched for the Homestead Grays for three seasons. In 1940, he was 5-3 with a 4.75 ERA (104 ERA+) and also hit .219. He was the team's third-most-used starter after Ray Brown and Edsall Walker. In 1941, he had a 2-3, 3.29 record (120 ERA+) and remained #3 in usage behind Brown and Terris McDuffie. He was 2-0 with a 3.79 ERA (101 ERA+) for the team in 1942; he did not pitch in the 1942 Negro World Series (which the Grays lost to the Kansas City Monarchs). He was 9-6 with a 4.12 ERA (108 ERA+) in 23 games (18 starts) for his career. He threw a fastball and curveball. Off the field, he was noted for his love of golf and caddied for Dizzy Dean in spring training on year.
