Biographical Information[edit]

Right fielder Iwao Omura played for the Chiba Lotte Marines in 1992 and 1993 and from 1995 to 2002. He had been a sixth-round pick of Chiba Lotte in the 1987 NPB draft as a pitcher but made it to the big club as an outfielder. He also spent 45 games with the California League's Visalia Oaks in 1995, slashing .261/.295/.353 with 1 home run and 18 RBI in 153 at-bats.

Usually used in a reserve role, Omura never played in more than 99 games or had more than 283 at-bats in a season. Perhaps his best campaigns were 1996, when he hit .312/.332/.492 with 8 home runs and 32 RBI in 199 at-bats and 1999, when he hit .276/.321/.478 with 13 home runs and 52 RBI in 268 at-bats. Overall, Omura batted .268/.303/.412 with 36 home runs and 174 RBI in 441 NPB games.

He later was a baseball commentator on TV and a minor league coach in Japan; he did coach for the Nippon Ham Fighters in 2009-2010.
