Biographical Information[edit]
Irait Chirino is an outfielder who played in Cuba and Brazil. He is the twin brother of Iraklys Chirino. Chirino hit .275 and slugged .401 in four seasons through 2007-2008. Chirino batted .352/.448/.516 for the Metropolitanos in 2008-2009, when his brother joined him in the Metropolitanos outfield. He tied Yulieski Gourriel for fourth in the league with 7 triples and tied for 6th with 64 strikeouts. He was put on Cuba's preliminary 58-man roster for the 2009 Baseball World Cup but did not make the final cut.
Moving to the Industriales in 2009-2010, he hit .291/.427/.411 with 11 outfield assists, replacing defector Yasser Gomez in the field. He drew 61 walks, 9th in the league, 23 behind the leader, his twin brother. He batted .308/.443/.492 with 11 homers and 72 runs in 86 games for the Industriales in 2010-2011. He tied Michel Enríquez and Isaac Martínez for 6th in the league with 62 walks.
In 2011-2012, Chirino's batting line was .326/.416/.482 and he had 25 doubles, 6 triples, 67 runs and 54 walks in 94 games. He tied Ariel Sánchez for 10th in runs, was 4th in doubles, tied for 6th in triples and tied for 4th in caught stealing (13, against only 8 SB). In 2012-2013, he remained fairly steady at .317/.403/.446 and tied for second with five triples, one behind leader Lázaro Rodríguez.
He then went to play in Brazil in late 2013. He was a member of the Brazilian national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, starting in left field; he was one of two Cuban outfielders on the club, which included J.C. Muniz. He was 2 for 7 with two walks and a run, third on the team in OBP behind Dante Bichette Jr. and Leonardo Reginatto.
