Iouri Tourchenko was the first batter for the Ukrainian national team in a European Championship, hitting leadoff and playing short against the Dutch national team in their 1995 European Championship opener. He was 0 for 2 with the team's lone walk (from Erik Lommerde) in a 10-0 loss, handling one assist. He finished the event at .294/.478/.294 with 5 walks and 4 runs in 6 games, while fielding .944. He stole three bases in three tries. He tied Andrea Evangelisti for second in the event in fielding at SS, behind Lars Koehorst. He led Ukraine in walks and was second to Igor Kovalenko in runs.
