Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher In-kwon Kang played for 12 years in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Kang debuted in 1995 with the Hanwha Eagles, hitting .220/~.345/.272 in 104 games, which would be the most action he would ever see; his 248 AB also were a career peak. In 1996, he went 11 for 50 with a double, homer and 11 walks. He hit .194/~.313/.194 over 108 plate appearances in 84 games in 1997. In '98, he went 0 for 5 with two walks in 24 games. He batted .221/~.384/.265 in 68 AB and 55 games during 1999. In 2000, he hit .280/~.388/.314 in 118 AB over 84 games. During 2001, he hit .247/~.360/.363 and set career highs in RBI (28), runs (20), hits (55), homers (6) and doubles (8).

Kang joined the Doosan Bears in 2002 and went 15 for 51 with a double and 4 walks in 38 games. He played for South Korea in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup and batted a solid .400/.571/.450 to lead the team in average, OBP and OPS; he did allow 10 steals in 11 tries, though. He went 2 for 3 in the Gold Medal game but his teammates combined for only 4 hits in a 2-1 loss to the Cuban national team. In 2003, he hit .291/~.359/.341 in 67 contests. He played 79 games for the 2004 Bears and hit .238/~.295/.281. In 2005, Kang went 8 for 28 with a double and six walks. He was 4 for 16 in 2006 to conclude his playing career.

Kang hit .244/~.350/.299 in 710 games in the KBO.

After retiring as a player, Kang became a coach with Doosan. He took over the managerial job with the NC Dinos partway through 2022, replacing Dong-wook Lee during the season (originally on an interim basis).
