Biographical Information[edit]
James "Ike" McAuley played five seasons in the National League and had a long minor league career. Most of his major league games were with the 1925 Cubs. McAuley played solely shortstop for the team, whose regular shortstop (and manager for one-third of the season) was Rabbit Maranville. However, Maranville was in only 75 games, hitting .233 at age 33, while McAuley hit .280 at the same age.
Ike was with the minor league Los Angeles Angels for six years. In 1921, when he had his best year with the Angels, teammate Wahoo Sam Crawford, at age 41, hit .318 with considerable power.
McAuley died in April 1928, after playing 87 games during the 1927 season in the minors.
