Biographical Information

Ike Jackson was a catcher in the Negro Leagues' last decade who later hit .355 in a four-year minor league career.

Jackson was a 29-year-old catcher for the Kansas City Monarchs, hitting .291 when he was chosen for the West team in the 1952 East-West Game. Starting at catcher and hitting 7th, he went 2 for 4 with a passed ball in a 7-3 win. Ike went to the minor leagues the next season and hit .388/.448/.604 with double-digits in doubles (28), triples (12) and homers (18) for the Carlsbad Potashers. He scored 105 runs and drove in 101 in 122 games. He led the Longhorn League in average, 16 points ahead of Elias Osorio, was 6th in triples, 7th in RBI and first in hits (190). He led Longhorn catchers in errors (17) and passed balls (20).

In 1954, Ike hit .383/?/.643 with 48 doubles, 10 triples and 26 homers for Carlsbad. He led the league with 215 hits, one of the few categories not led by Joe Bauman, who had a minor league season for the record books. Still with the Potashers in '55, Jackson batted .299 with 36 doubles and 12 home runs in a big drop-off from the prior two years. He ended his career with the 1956 Midland Indians, hitting .347 with a .612 slugging percentage, 38 doubles and 31 home runs. He was three home runs and six hits of the Southwestern League leaders and he was five doubles shy of the circuit's record for two-baggers.

Jackson hit .355 and slugged .586 with 150 doubles, 34 triples and 87 home runs in 518 minor league games, albeit all in high-offense, low-level southwestern circuits.
