Biographical Information[edit]

Ian Gibaut was born in Houston, TX and was a diehard Houston Astros fan as a youth, but he grew up all over the place. His father Russel was born on the island of Jersey in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States in his 20's, after graduating from Oxford University to work as an oil trader. Ian's mother is of Cajun background, which may explain why he chose to attend Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. The family lived in Bermuda, New York, NY and Boston, MA when Ian was growing up.

Eligible to pitch for the British national team through his father, Gibaut recorded a historic save at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, when he held off Colombia in the 9th inning on March 13th to preserve a 7-5 win - Great Britain's first-ever win in a World Baseball Classic game. He went on to have his best major league season as a mainstay of the Cincinnati Reds bullpen in 2023. He appeared in 73 games, going 8-4, 3.33 with 3 saves, serving alongside Buck Farmer as the main set-up men for All-Star closer Alexis Diaz while the Reds fell just shy of sneaking into the postseason.
