Biographical Information[edit]
Humberto Cardenas debuted as a pro with the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2005, going 4-5 with a 4.36 ERA in the independent leagues. In 2006, he was 8-9 with a 4.44 ERA for the Modesto Nuts in the Colorado Rockies chain. He allowed a .298 average but walked only 29 in 129 2/3 IP. In 2007, Cardenas was 2-9 with a 6.47 ERA for the Oaxaca Warriors, giving up 112 hits in 72 1/3 IP. He pitched for Mexico in the 2007 Baseball World Cup. Getting the start against South Africa, he allowed 3 runs in 5 innings to get a win. He allowed 6 hits and 4 runs against Australia, lasting just two innings in a loss to Adam Blackley. He was 1-1 with a 7.88 ERA overall in the Cup, posting Mexico's second-highest ERA.
Cardenas allowed one run in 2 1/3 IP for the 2008 Mexico City Red Devils. Humberto is the brother of David Cortes, since their last names are really Cardenas Cortes.
