Biographical Information[edit]
Hughie "Cotton" Miller played one game in the National League with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1911 and then came back to become a regular in the Federal League with the St. Louis Terriers in 1914, then played 7 games in that circuit in 1915.
Miller was born in St. Louis, MO and was a first baseman in the minors. He was with the Keokuk Indians from 1908-1910. Most of 1911 was spent with the Buffalo Bisons, although he appeared in one game in the majors. 1912 and 1913 were with the Sacramento Sacts and Montreal Royals, respectively.
At age 27, Miller became the regular first baseman for manager Mordecai Brown and the Terriers. He appeared in 132 of the team's 151 games.
Later, according to the book Early Exits, he was wounded in action during World War I.
