Hugh Hamilton was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 32nd round of the 1966 amateur draft. He did not sign and went 32-6 in college, setting a Sam Houston State record for wins. When the American Baseball Coaches Association picked its first NCAA Division II All-American team in 1969, Hamilton was one of two hurlers selected (Rich Hand was the other). He had a brief pro career, pitching for the Decatur Commodores in 1970 (1-1, 3.00 in 9 G) and 1971 (0-2, 6.43 in 7 G). Overall, he was 1-3 with a 3.71 ERA as a pro.
