Howard L. Green
Howard Green was a sports writer for the Abilene Reporter-News. After serving in World War II, he became a part owner of the Abilene Blue Sox of the West Texas-New Mexico League. After the 1946 season, he helped form the Longhorn League, and he was later elected its president. He also later served as president of the Gulf Coast League, the Big State League, and the Gulf States League.
Green left baseball and entered politics for a time, serving in the Texas legislature, as a judge, and as Tarrant County treasurer. He is also the grandfather of actor Ethan Hawke.
