The Houston Magnolias were the Texas-Southern League champs in 1896. Two players led the league in stats this year. One being the short-time Colonels catcher Henry Cote who stole 64 bases and the other a pitcher, John Roach, who accumulated a huge number of wins totaling 29 at the end of the season.
