Biographical Information[edit]

Hiroto Fuku pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Fuku was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the fourth round of the 2015 NPB draft, and he joined the bullpen as a rookie. He had a 4.78 ERA in 27 relief outings in his rookie year. However, Fuku injured his left shoulder, so he only pitched 6 games combined with the big club in the next two seasons. The young southpaw broke out in 2019, when he had a solid 2.05 ERA in 52 appearances, and notched 18 holds. Fuku extended his reliable performance in 2019, collecting 25 holds with a 3.55 ERA. Although league-leader Noboru Shimizu had 5 more holds then him, Fuku still shared the Central League Most Valuable Setup Pitcher Award with him and his teammate Daisuke Sobue due to his 5 relief wins. The Kobe native collected 20 holds with a 3.18 ERA in 57 appearances in 2021, but slumped to 4.55 ERA in 36 games in 2022. What made things worse is that he suffered from ossification of the yellow ligament and missed the entire 2023 season.
