Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroshi Nishioka pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Nishioka represented Japan in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup, going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA. He got the win over Italy, relieving Atsushi Yoshida in the 7th with a 2-2 tie and tossing three shutout innings to beat Fulvio Valle as Japan rallied. They won Silver. The Yakult Swallows drafted him in the second round of the 1991 NPB draft. Nishioka allowed 16 runs in 14 1/3 innings in his rookie year, and spent the next four years in the NPB Farm Leagues. He only had 5 appearances combined with the big club. He transferred to the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 1997, but he still couldn't get many chances. He only pitched 22 more games over the next three seasons, then announced his retirement after the 1999 season.
Overall, Nishioka was 0-3 and a 8.31 ERA and pitched 30 1/3 innings in 6 seasons in NPB.
