Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroshi Maruko pitched for four years for the Nankai Hawks.
In college, Maruko fanned 83 batters in the fall of 1953 to set a Tokyo Metropolitan University League. He turned pro with the Hawks in 1955 and went 12-5 with a 2.35 ERA. He allowed one run in three innings in the 1955 Japan Series, which the Hawks dropped in seven games to the Yomiuri Giants.
Maruko saw limited action his last three years, going 2-1 with a 3.79 ERA in 1956, 3-0 with a 2.35 ERA in 1957 and 1-0 with a 3.31 ERA in 1958. He finished his career with a composite record of 18-6, 2.64 in 77 games.
