Biographical Information[edit]
Hirofumi Sekine pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Sekine represented Japan in the 1982 Amateur World Series. The Taiyo Whales drafted him in the second round of the 1982 NPB draft. He only had 10 appearances in his rookie year. The Whales named Sekine one of their regular starting pitchers in 1983, and he went 3-11 with a 4.29 ERA. He started 22 games with a 4.38 ERA and had a 6-13 record in 1984. However, he injured his shoulder, and he only had 20 appearances over the next three years. Sekine announced his retirement after the 1988 season.
Overall, Sekine was 9-26 with a 4.61 ERA and pitched 349 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
