Hipólito Ortiz played 11 seasons in Panama, hitting .313/~.335/.529. [1] In the 1998 Baseball World Cup, he hit .261/.370/.565, serving as their main DH and backing up Earl Agnoly in left. His two homers tied Agnoly for the team lead. [2] He won Gold with Panama in the 2001 Bolivarian Games. [3] He later coached in Panama. [4] He was bullpen coach for Panama in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. [5]
