As of 2005, the most recent professional baseball team in either High Point, NC or Thomasville, NC was around for one year - the 1969 High Point-Thomasville Royals. Formerly the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms, the club became a Kansas City Royals affiliate when that team was created in 1969. They finished fourth in the Western Division of the Carolina League at 69-74, under the guidance of manager Harry Malmberg. Lacking any All-Stars, the club drew 44,472 fans, 5th in the 10-team league, and was outscored 560-551. Gerald Lyscio (11-10, 2.50) was third in the Carolina League in ERA, while Jerry Cram went 6-1 with a 1.26 ERA in eight starts, striking out 69 in 57 innings and throwing five complete games. OF Ken Huebner (.324/~.359/.423) won the league's batting title.
