Biographical Information[edit]

Hideki Hashigami played for over a decade in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Hashigami was picked by the Yakult Swallows in 1983 NPB draft. He debuted with the big club in 1988, going 2 for 16 with 9 runs in 35 games. He hit .346/.358/.462 in 42 games in 1989 as a backup outfielder. He was 5 for 22 with a triple and four walks in 1990. He batted .287/.347/.431 in 59 games in 1991. In 1992, he topped 100 games for the only time and hit .227/.328/.381. He was 5 for 8 with a walk, double, homer and five runs in the 1992 Japan Series while backing up Shinji Hata, Tetsuya Iida and Yukio Arai in the outfield. Yakult fell in seven games despite Hashigami's heroics.

Hashigami hit .305/.375/.381 in 49 games in 1993 then went 1 for 9 in the 1993 Japan Series, again backing up Arai, Iida and Hata while Yakult won it all. He was 1 for 7 in 1994. In 34 games as a sub in 1995, Hideki hit .298/.403/.474. He was 0 for 1 in the 1995 Japan Series, won hy the Swallows. He was 4 for 24 with a double and three walks in 1996.

Moving to the Nippon Ham Fighters in 1997, Hideki was 9 for 45 with eight walks and a double. He hit .301/.366/.373 in 94 plate appearances over 91 games in 1998 then was 6 for 28 with two doubles, a home run and eight walks in 1999. Overall, in 543 games in NPB, Hashigami put up a .265/.346/.383 batting line.
