Heritage Park

Heritage Park was located in Colonie, NY near the Albany International Airport. It was originally home to the Albany-Colonie A's until the AA Yankees came in from 1985 to 1994. Lack of concession and ballpark improvements were among the alleged political reasons for the affiliate not to renew its contract. The eventual lack of fan attendance also contributed in this decision. The park added seats anyway and became home to the independent (then Northern League) Diamond Dogs for two seasons and also due to lack of attendance, the park closed its gates forever.

Rip Rowen, a former local sports anchor was the park's GM for a spell. The site gave way to auction (they even attempted to sell the dirt) in future attempts by Albany County to build a new nursing home, even though a decent facility resides just north of it and another just east as well which is the Ann Lee nursing home which boasts the original Shaker burial grounds where Mother Ann Lee rests.

Many respectable ball players, coaches, and managers have stood ground at this park, and it is sorely missed by many area residents and travelers who have passed through. Currently, the area sports the Tri-City Valley Cats which is a class A club belonging to the Houston Astros, located in Troy, NY.
