Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Heriberto Vargas spent seven years playing in Mexico. In 1966, with the Guanajuato Tuzos of the Mexican Center League, he hit .445 with 55 home runs, 174 RBI and 168 runs in 127 games to win the Triple Crown. He also set league single-season records in batting average, runs and RBI. A few years previous, with the same club in 1964, he led the league with 24 home runs and 96 RBI, while batting .360 -- but he did not win the Triple Crown, as Armando de Leon paced the loop with a .379 mark.
