Biographical Information[edit]
Herb Worth played one game in his career. The Brooklyn Atlantics played only 37 games in 1872, but used 8 players in right field. Jack McDonald was used the most, but was not on the team the whole season. Worth, a Brooklyn boy, got into one game in July, on July 29th. Interestingly it was not his debut in the National Association as four weeks earlier, on July 2nd, he had umpired one game between the Atlantics and the Mutuals of New York.
The Atlantics just could not settle on a right fielder. In 1873 they mostly used Bill Boyd, in 1874 they mostly used Jack Chapman, and in 1875 they used 19 (!) different players in right field, with no one appearing more than 12 times. Of course, since the team went 2-42 that year, it is perhaps understandable that they were looking for solutions.
