Biographical Information[edit]

Herb Nauert played in the minor leagues for four years. He hit .251/.320/.367 for the 1950 Harlingen Capitals and fielded .880 at third base; while that mark may seem low, it was around the median for third basemen in the Rio Grande Valley League that year. In 1951, he played in 154 games for Harlingen, a Gulf Coast League record. He hit .252 and slugged .359. His 31 doubles tied for 10th in the league. With the Galveston White Caps in 1952, Nauert produced at a .265/.342/.397 clip with 77 runs and 78 RBI, fielding .905 at the hot corner. He split 1953 between the Lamesa Lobos and Winters-Ballinger Eagles, slumping to .203/.273/.328 in a hitter's league. For his career, he hit .252 with 382 hits, 74 doubles and 29 home runs in 417 games.

Nauert later worked for Buttercrust Bakery in Austin and was warehouse operations manager for White Swan Institutional Foods.

His son, Herb Nauert III, was drafted by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the 1985 amateur draft.
