Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Hector Yan began playing in the Los Angeles Angels organization in 2016, when he went 2-0, 0.89 with the DSL Angels. He moved to the United States the following season, but did not pick up a single win in either 2017 or 2018, both spent in Rookie Class, even though he was mainly a starter and did not pitch poorly. In any case, he found better results in 2019 with the Burlington Bees in the Midwest League when he went 4-5, 3.39 in 26 games, including 20 starts. He allowed just 74 hits in 109 innings while striking out 148 batters. He led the Angels organization in strikeouts, and finished second in the league, 2 behind leader Alden McIntyre.

He had to sit out the 2020 season because of the shutdown of the minor leagues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but he was able to play in the Dominican League that winter, with 5 appearances for the Aguilas Cibaenas. In 2021, he was with the Tri-City Dust Devils of the High-A West, and while his ERA was high at 5.25 and his record was just 3-7, he once again showed some very good stuff with just 69 hits allowed in 82 1/3 innings, and 94 strikeouts. He was also selected to play for the American League team in the 2021 Futures Game.
