Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Heberto Andrade played three seasons (1987-1989) in the lower levels of the Chicago Cubs organization. Overall he hit .179/.248/.210 while appearing in 113 games. Andrade then spent several years playing professionally in Venezuela, Italy, and Colombia before retiring in 1996.

Andrade began his post-playing career as an area scout for the Oakland Athletics in 1996. He worked in the same capacity for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1998-2002. His career took a brief turn in 2003 when he served in the dual role of pitching coach and assistant catching instructor for the Victoria Capitals. The Capitals played in the Canadian Baseball League which folded mid-season after the league's all-star game.

In 2004, Andrade joined the Pittsburgh Pirates as their bullpen catcher, a role he maintained through the 2021 season. For his last three seasons in Pittsburgh he also served as an assistant coach. Andrade left the Pirates after 2021 and moved to the San Diego Padres as their bullpen catcher and assistant bullpen coach.

In addition to working in the major leagues, Andrade has extensive experience coaching in his native Venezuela, mostly with Águilas del Zulia. His roles include:
