Biographical Information

Catcher Hayato Doue played briefly in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Doue played for Nissan Motors in the industrial leagues for two years, after college. He then signed with the Kagawa Olive Guyners of the Shikoku Island League. In 2006, he hit .327 with 11 home runs, leading the league in both average and home runs. He was named the regular season MVP. He batted .322 with 7 homers in 2007 and was named the postseason MVP after Kagawa won it all. He played in a winter Australian league in Queensland; the Boston Red Sox became interested and offered him a contract but there were visa holdups. He fell to .290 with 5 dingers his third summer with Kagawa, but they still won another title.

The SoftBank Hawks then took Doue in the taxi squad draft. He was an All-Star in the minor Western League in 2009. He made it briefly to the top club in 2010, getting 8 plate appearances over 7 games. He made his debut on March 22 as a defensive replacement for Hidenori Tanoue. Arihito Muramatsu pinch-hit for him before he got a chance to bat. His first hit came exactly three months later, a single off Masaru Takeda. He went 2 for 7 with two strikeouts and a sacrifice hit for the year. He never played in another NPB game.

Doue ran into problems off the field shortly thereafter. He was charged with molesting a 17-year-old girl in a parking lot in Koga, Fukuoka in July 2012 and was sentenced to two years in prison for his crimes.
