Harwell Baseball Field

From BR Bullpen

Harwell Baseball Field has been the long-time home of Wayne State University.

Many renovations have taken place at Harwell Baseball Field, formerly WSU Baseball Field. In 2003, the old fencing was removed and a replica Fenway Park outfield fence was installed, matching the original in Boston – including a 37.5 foot-high “Green Monster”, outfield configuration and right field foul pole. Major league size dugouts were constructed (2009) and bullpens were added.

In August of 2018, chair back seating and a two-tier press box was added. The new seating accommodates 218 fans behind home plate plus five handicapped accessible spaces. There are also berms down either base line that can comfortably fit around 100 people on each side. Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for those areas down the first base and third base lines.

The field plays host to numerous youth, high school and inner city ball teams throughout the season. Through an arrangement with the Detroit Historical Society, the left field scoreboard from the former Tiger Stadium has been made functional and is attached to the base of the left field wall.
