Historical References[edit]

August 25, 1924, Daily Kennebec Journal: Harry Slate, who started the initial run in, got away to a bad start and at the end of the third verse had been found for seven bingles and a total of five tallies enough to win any ordinary ball game. As it proved, however, it was not to be an ordinary exhibition. After the third canto, Harry clamped the lid on for further scoring by the Lord-led hosts, while the Millionaires grimly faced the task of overhauling the Lisbonites.

May 7, 1927, Albany Evening News: There is a possibility that Bill McCorry, Albany manager, will start Harry Slate in the box for the Senators. Slate is the young Springfield boy who turned in such a neat performance against Hartford the other day. He has been seen in a relief role at Chadwick Park earlier this year, but tomorrow he may be given a chance to start the contest.

August 8, 1928, Van Wert Daily Bulletin: Harry Slate, strikeout king of the New England league last season, has signed to pitch for Duffy Lewis' Portland Mariners.
