Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Harry McCurdy played ten seasons in the majors. Usually a backup, with the 1927 Chicago White Sox he became the regular as he appeared in 82 games at catcher, edging out Buck Crouse who was in 81 games at the position. Starting in 1930 he did a lot of pinch-hitting.

He hit .326 for the White Sox in 1926 and .331 for the 1930 Philadelphia Phillies, although it has to be noted that the Phils hit .315 as a team that year.

He spent the 1929 season with Toledo. Before the 1930 season, he and Pete Alexander were traded by the St. Louis Cardinals to the Phillies.

He managed the Wilmington Pirates for part of 1934 and the Fort Worth Cats for parts of 1935 and 1936.
