Biographical Information[edit]

Hansel Izquierdo pitched 20 games for the Florida Marlins in 2002, posting a record of 2-0. He pitched in Mexico in 2009, posting an ERA of 1.64.

Born in Cuba in 1977, he was drafted by the Marlins in 1995 and spent 1995 and 1996 at their rookie club. The Chicago White Sox picked him up and he played in their organization from 1997 to 2000. The Cleveland Indians had him for part of 2000. After the 2000 season he was signed again by the Marlins and played in their organization in 2001 and 2002. In 2001 he went 16-3 with three minor league teams.

In 2003 and 2004, he was with the organizations of several teams: the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees. In 2005 he was the Pittsburgh organization, going 8-6.

During 2006-2009 he pitched in Mexico.

This article indicates that Izquierdo defected from the Cuban national junior team when he was in the U.S. in 1994. Michael Tejera defected with him.
