Biographical Information[edit]
The son of Hank Sauer and nephew of Ed Sauer, outfielder Hank Sauer Jr. played three seasons in the minors in the 1970s in the San Francisco Giants and California Angels organizations. He hit .263/.377/.405 for the 1974 Great Falls Giants, with 24 steals in 28 tries. He was 4th in the Pioneer League in swipes behind future big leaguers Julio Cruz, Marshall Edwards and Thad Bosley. In 1975, Sauer batted .266/.382/.421 with 72 walks for the Fresno Giants. He fielded only .924, the lowest of any starting California League outfielder. He ended up in '76 with Fresno, improving his fielding to .966. He hit .250/.393/.372 with 72 walks and 16 steals in 20 attempts.
